Stop scrolling, because the Love Island villa keys have changed hands — and the host handing them over is NOT happy about how it went down.

Ariana Madix has publicly called out Love Island Australia after she appeared in an AI-assisted promo for the show's upcoming eighth season. Her reaction, in a nutshell: "Wtf guys."

What Actually Happened

According to E! News, the Love Island USA host popped up in a promo posted Oct. 4 teasing Love Island Australia's takeover of the USA villa in Fiji.

In the clip, Ariana (in a colorful strapless dress and sunglasses) passes off the villa keys and tells the camera, "Good luck, Australia! Try not to break anything."

Then the video cuts to Australian host Sophie Monk, who jokes that the place needs some "Ausification." After that, we get AI-generated models renovating the villa. Instagram has labeled the promo "AI content," per E!.

Ariana Was NOT Told

Here's the part that matters. Ariana, 41, commented on Instagram (via a screenshot shared by fan accounts, as E! reports):

"They didn't tell me AT ALL that the clip I shot would be used with AI. Something I am firmly against. Wtf @loveislandau?"

So to be clear: she shot a clip, and says she had no idea it would end up in an AI-generated promo. That's the whole beef.

The Internet Had THOUGHTS

Ariana wasn't the only one side-eyeing the video. E! notes that fans in the comments weren't thrilled either:

  • One commenter said they'd have preferred last year's villa "if it meant you could actually afford to make a promo video without using AI."
  • Another asked: "Why are we using AI? This is so embarrassing."

Ouch. Love Island fans love a villa makeover, but apparently not a robot-powered one.

What Happens Next?

E! says it reached out to ITV Studios Australia, which produces Love Island Australia, but hadn't heard back at the time of publishing. We'll update if the show responds.

For the record, Ariana's job isn't going anywhere. She's been hosting Love Island USA since season six in 2024, and E! reports she's confirmed to return for season nine in summer 2027. The spinoffs Love Island: Beyond the Villa and Love Island Games have also been renewed for season three.

The Tea ☕

  • Love Island Australia dropped an AI-labeled promo featuring Ariana Madix handing over the USA villa keys.
  • Ariana says she wasn't told her clip would be used with AI, and that she's "firmly against" it.
  • Fans in the comments also criticized the show's use of AI. The production company hasn't commented yet.

Whether this was a communication mishap or a bigger debate about AI in reality TV, one thing is clear: the host of the world's most-memed dating show is not here for it.

So what do you think: is Ariana right to be furious, or is this just the future of TV promos? Sound off below. 👇
