Gary Neville Just Said Liverpool And Man City Are "Nowhere Near" Arsenal's Level β And The Internet Is LOSING IT π₯β½
The Sky Sports pundit dropped the most BRUTAL take after just ONE game of the season β and he's already calling Arsenal to win the title "by a street." Yes, really.
Stop scrolling, because Gary Neville just dropped the hottest take of the Premier League season β and we're only ONE GAME IN.
The Sky Sports legend has declared that Liverpool and Manchester City are "well below the level required" to win the title this season, and that Arsenal should win the league "by a street." The audacity! The DRAMA!
The Tea β
- Gary Neville says Liverpool and Man City won't challenge Arsenal for the title
- His verdict came after watching both teams struggle on opening weekend
- Arsenal cruised 3-0 past Coventry while City and Liverpool scraped wins/draws
- Bookies already have Arsenal as odds-on favourites with 37 games still to play
One Week In And He's Already Called It
According to Sky Sports, Neville watched the chaos of opening weekend and immediately knew what was up. Manchester City needed a last-gasp Josko Gvardiol winner to beat Bournemouth 2-1 at home (yes, at HOME), while Liverpool left it even later to scrape a 2-2 draw at Newcastle thanks to a 99th-minute penalty.
Meanwhile, Arsenal? They absolutely swatted aside Coventry 3-0 with minimal fuss. And Neville noticed.
"Arsenal should win this league by a street," he said on The Gary Neville Podcast. "I don't sit here on Sunday evening thinking anything differently."
TELL US HOW YOU REALLY FEEL, GARY.
"Everything We Thought We'd See, We're Seeing"
Neville went IN on the supposed title contenders, pointing out that the top teams are looking shakier than ever. Sky Sports reports he said: "We've seen Tottenham get beat, we've seen Manchester United get beat, we've seen Liverpool nearly get beat, we've seen City scrambling for a win at home."
He's not wrong! Hull City pulled off the shock of the weekend with a 2-0 win over Man United, while Brentford beat Spurs. The chaos is REAL and Neville is here for it β or rather, he's here to tell us Arsenal are going to cruise through it all.
But What About Liverpool's Late Drama?
Sure, Liverpool got that dramatic late point at Newcastle, but it wasn't pretty. According to the BBC, new boss Andoni Iraola admitted his side "definitely deserves this point and even more" β but former Scotland winger Pat Nevin was less kind.
"You're expecting Liverpool to get top four this season at least but they didn't look like a top four team today," Nevin told BBC Radio 5 Live. OUCH.
The big-money signings Alexander Isak (who was booed relentlessly by his former Newcastle fans) and Florian Wirtz both struggled to make an impact. Liverpool have now conceded more goals via fast breaks than any other Premier League team since the start of last season. That's... not ideal when you're trying to win a title.
And City Aren't Much Better?
City are entering their first season without Pep Guardiola, with Enzo Maresca taking the reins. They got the win against Bournemouth, but it was hardly convincing β and Neville clearly thinks the transition is going to be bumpy.
With Arsenal looking ominous and their rivals looking shaky, the pundit reckons this is going to be "the most unpredictable season" we've seen in years. But also... the most predictable? Because he's already calling it for the Gunners?
Make it make sense, Gary!
The Verdict
Look, it's bold. It's spicy. It's PEAK Gary Neville hot-take energy after literally one game. But is he wrong? Arsenal looked frighteningly good, and Liverpool and City both looked like works in progress.
The bookies agree β Arsenal are already odds-on favourites to lift the trophy, and we're barely into August. If Neville's right, this title race is going to be a procession. If he's wrong? Well, Jamie Carragher is going to have a FIELD DAY on Monday Night Football.
Either way, we are SO here for the drama. What do you think β is Gary Neville spot on, or is it way too early to write off Liverpool and Man City? Sound off below! π
