Julia Fox Is Directing Her First Movie β€” And It's Set In The Grittiest Era Of NYC History 🎬

The 'Uncut Gems' star and downtown icon is going behind the camera for 'Sixth Avenue Saints' β€” a coming-of-age story set in 1993 Brooklyn and Manhattan that she ALSO wrote. And yes, she's already casting locals to bring those authentic NYC vibes.

Stop everything, because Julia Fox is about to become your new favorite director β€” and we are SO ready for this.

The downtown it-girl, fashion icon, and former dominatrix (yes, really) is making her feature-film directorial debut with "Sixth Avenue Saints," a gritty coming-of-age drama set in 1993 New York City. According to Page Six, Fox didn't just sign on to direct β€” she WROTE the whole thing too.

And honestly? If anyone knows how to capture the raw, unfiltered chaos of pre-gentrified NYC, it's Julia Fox.

The Tea β˜•

  • Julia Fox is writing AND directing her first feature film, "Sixth Avenue Saints"
  • It's set in 1993 Brooklyn and Downtown Manhattan β€” the grittiest era of NYC
  • The story follows a 12-year-old named Luan who meets a homeless street kid and discovers the hidden world of the city's outsiders
  • She's already casting local background actors for $20/hour to bring authentic "Brooklyn/NYC vibes"

What's The Movie About?

The film tells the story of Luan, a sensitive 12-year-old growing up in a fractured household in Coney Island. Enter Frankie: a fearless homeless street kid surviving downtown on his own.

Frankie introduces Luan to a hidden side of New York β€” the piers, queer street life, hustlers, sex workers, junkies, and other outsiders living on the margins of the city, according to the production details.

If that doesn't scream "Julia Fox energy," we don't know what does.

She's Done This Before (Sort Of)

Before you think this is completely out of left field, Fox already dipped her toes into directing back in 2021 when she wrote and directed a short film called "Fantasy Girls" about sex workers in Nevada.

But "Sixth Avenue Saints" marks her first FULL-LENGTH feature β€” and the first time she's bringing her signature downtown aesthetic to the big screen in such a major way.

From Actress To Director

Fox, 36, became a breakout star with her 2019 film debut in the Safdie brothers' "Uncut Gems," opposite Adam Sandler. Since then, she's built a career spanning acting, modeling, writing (her 2023 memoir "Down the Drain" was everywhere), and fashion.

She's literally one of pop culture's most recognizable downtown personalities β€” known for her bold fashion choices, her unapologetic authenticity, and that time she dated Kanye West and wore all those matching denim outfits.

The Casting Call Is REAL

According to industry site Backstage, Fox is already casting for extras β€” specifically looking for adults ages 35 to 79 who can bring authentic "Brooklyn/NYC vibes" to the film.

The pay? $20 an hour with a $100 minimum per day guaranteed. Professional acting experience isn't required, says casting agent Katya Chernetsova from 25 Casting.

So if you're a New Yorker with that old-school energy, this might be your moment.

Why We're Obsessed

Listen, Julia Fox directing a period piece about 1990s New York feels like the most on-brand thing she could possibly do. This is someone who's lived and breathed downtown culture, who understands the grit and glamour of the city's margins, and who's never been afraid to tell raw, honest stories.

Plus, a coming-of-age story about queer street life and outsiders in pre-gentrified NYC? In 2026? We are NOT okay (in the best way).

Fox hasn't responded to Page Six's request for comment β€” probably too busy scouting locations in Brooklyn and perfecting her vision board.
