Stop everything, rom-com lovers, because the news we've been DREAMING about for 23 years just dropped. 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' is officially getting a sequel β€” and Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are both expected to return.

We are NOT okay. πŸ˜πŸ’›

The Tea β˜•

  • Paramount Pictures is in early development on a sequel to the 2003 rom-com classic
  • Kate Hudson is producing alongside Stacey Sher
  • The plan is for both Hudson and McConaughey to reprise their iconic roles as Andie and Ben
  • No writer is attached yet, so plot details are still under wraps
  • The original film grossed nearly $180 million worldwide and became a rom-com essential

How Did This Happen?!

According to Variety, development is in the very early stages. There's no writer on board yet and technically no cast attachments β€” but sources say the intention is absolutely for Hudson and McConaughey to return as magazine columnist Andie Anderson and advertising exec Benjamin Barry.

Deadline confirms that Hudson is producing through her production deal, with heavyweight producer Stacey Sher (yes, the woman behind "Pulp Fiction," "Erin Brockovich," and "Django Unchained") also on board.

Translation? This is HAPPENING, people.

But Wait, Will They Actually Do It?

Hudson has been pretty vocal about her love for the movie, telling Harper's Bazaar in April that "'How to Lose a Guy' feels like a classic at this point. New generations keep finding it."

And McConaughey? He literally said it's his favorite rom-com he's ever done during an August podcast appearance, revealing that it "still pays the best mailbox money of any film I've ever done" thanks to Valentine's Day streaming every single year.

"It's the gift that keeps on giving," he gushed to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, per E! Online. "Every March I'd get a big check because Valentine's Day."

So yeah, he's probably answering that phone call.

Why Now?

If you've been paying attention to Hollywood lately, you already know the answer: Y2K nostalgia is PRINTING MONEY.

Variety points out that 2026 has already brought us "The Devil Wears Prada 2," new "Scary Movie," and "Toy Story 5" β€” all massive box office hits cashing in on late '90s and early 2000s IP. And it's not slowing down: "Practical Magic 2" and a new "Meet the Parents" movie are coming soon, with "Shrek 5" slated for 2027.

Studios are literally going through our childhood DVD collections looking for the next sequel, and honestly? We're here for it.

The Love Fern LIVES

For anyone who somehow hasn't seen the 2003 original (go watch it RIGHT NOW), here's the premise: Magazine writer Andie makes a bet that she can drive any guy away in 10 days for an article. Ad exec Ben bets his boss he can make any woman fall in love with him in 10 days for a campaign pitch. They pick each other. Chaos, a dying love fern, and real feelings ensue.

The Donald Petrie-directed film became an instant classic, with Hudson's yellow dress moment and that "You're gonna ruin our girl!" scene living rent-free in our heads forever.

What We Want To See

No plot details have been revealed yet β€” because, again, there's literally no script β€” but we have THOUGHTS. Are Andie and Ben married with kids? Did they break up and find their way back together? Is the love fern somehow still alive?

And more importantly: Will there be another iconic ball gown moment? Because that $6 million Harry Winston "Isadora Diamond" necklace and yellow silk dress combo is still undefeated.

The Bottom Line

Look, we know it's early days. We know Hollywood announces sequels all the time that never happen. But with Hudson producing and both stars publicly loving the original, this feels REAL.

Plus, after the success of "The Devil Wears Prada 2" this year, Paramount would be absolutely wild not to fast-track this. The audience is THERE. The nostalgia is REAL. And we are READY to see Andie and Ben's story continue.

Now somebody write that script ASAP because we've been waiting 23 years and we're not waiting much longer. πŸ’›
