Rosie O'Donnell Just DESTROYED Trump On Jimmy Kimmel Live β And Her Hayden Tribute Had Us Sobbing π
The comedy legend made her surprise hosting debut on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" β and she came for her 20-year nemesis HARD while also delivering the most moving tribute to Hayden Panettiere.
Well THAT just happened. Rosie O'Donnell strutted onto the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" stage Monday night in a bright pink suit covered in flowers β and immediately declared war on her old enemy Donald Trump. And honestly? We are SO here for it. π₯
The comedy icon is filling in as guest host for a full week while Jimmy Kimmel takes his summer vacation, and she kicked things off with a bang. "If you thought the president hated 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' when it was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel? Buckle up, people! Buckle up," she told the cheering crowd.
Yes, really.
"Mango Mussolini" Has ENTERED The Chat
Rosie did not hold back when it came to Trump, her arch-nemesis of 20 years (their feud started when she mocked his bankruptcies on "The View" back in 2006, and he's literally never let it go).
During her monologue, she explained why she's been living in Ireland for the past two years: "I've been living in Ireland for the past two years because of 'Mango Mussolini,'" she said, according to Variety. "I read that Project 2025 and said, 'Gotta get myself out of here!' and I decided to go to Ireland where people are driven to drink regardless of who's running their country."
MANGO MUSSOLINI. We are DECEASED. π
At one point she even turned directly to the camera and addressed Trump: "Hi! I know you're watching!" The absolute NERVE. We love it.
The Tea β
- Rosie told Variety she was "surprised" by Kimmel's hosting offer given their past "adversarial relationship" β she'd never even been a GUEST on the show before
- She accepted because she supports Kimmel's First Amendment fight against Trump's attempts to get his show canceled
- The audience greeted her with chants of "RO-SIE! RO-SIE!" β the love is REAL
- Guests included "Ted Lasso" star Hannah Waddingham, who totally fangirled ("I can't believe I'm talking to Rosie O'Donnell⦠I'm losing my mind!")
And Then She Made Us Cry
Between guests, Rosie delivered an absolutely heartbreaking tribute to Hayden Panettiere, who tragically died Sunday at just 36 years old.
"I'm just heartbroken over the passing of Hayden Panettiere last night. She was on my show many times as a little girl, and I got to know her as a grown woman," she said, according to Variety, visibly emotional. "And she was so brave talking about mental health before people were really ready to hear about it, and very sad. My love to her family and friends, and she will be missed. Godspeed, Hayden."
The tribute hit especially hard because Hayden had been a frequent guest on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" as a child actress. The two had stayed connected over the years, with Rosie watching Hayden grow into an adult who bravely spoke about her mental health struggles.
Deadline also reports that Hayden's "Nashville" co-stars have been sharing their own tributes. Charles Esten posted a sweet story about meeting her at his audition when she literally had her ear pressed to the door listening β and then burst in with the biggest smile saying "That was so good!!" Connie Britton simply wrote: "I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak."
We're not crying, you're crying. π
The Vibe Was EVERYTHING
Overall, Rosie seemed totally at ease behind the desk after decades away from TV hosting. She shared hilarious stories about living in Ireland (the enthusiastic drinking! trying to ask out her straight pharmacist!), bantered effortlessly with her guests, and basically reminded everyone why she was such a beloved daytime host for so many years.
And you KNOW Trump is watching. Cue the angry social media posts in 3... 2... 1...
Rosie's hosting "Jimmy Kimmel Live" all week, so we're expecting MORE fireworks. Are you Team Rosie in this decades-long feud, or do you think she should let it go? Sound off below! π
