Tate McRae And NHL Star Jack Hughes Just Split β And The Breakup Is Already MESSY
The "Exes" singer and the New Jersey Devils center have called it quits after just months of dating β and both sides are telling VERY different stories about who dumped who. ππ
Well, this one ended faster than a power play.
Tate McRae and NHL star Jack Hughes have officially broken up, Page Six can confirm β and the split is already icier than the hockey rink Hughes plays on. The tea? Both sides are claiming they were the ones who ended it. Yes, really.
According to sources close to the situation, the New Jersey Devils center has been telling his friends he dumped the "Exes" singer because he started seeing "red flags." One insider told Page Six that Hughes "has already moved on and has started dating other people." Ouch.
But wait β sources in McRae's camp are singing a completely different tune, insisting SHE was the one who pulled the plug. Someone's not telling the truth here, and we are absolutely living for the drama. π
The Tea β
- Tate McRae, 23, and Jack Hughes, 25, dated for just a few months
- Hughes is telling pals he ended it over "red flags" and has moved on
- McRae's team says she's the one who called it quits
- The couple never even publicly confirmed their romance before splitting
When It All Started (And Ended)
The pair first sparked dating rumors when they were spotted getting cozy around NYC late last year. McRae was photographed cheering Hughes on at New Jersey Devils games, and the duo were caught "looking flirty" during a dinner at Anton's in the West Village last winter, according to Page Six.
Hughes reportedly slid into McRae's DMs to pursue her β a classic move that clearly worked, at least temporarily.
By March, a source told Us Weekly the couple was "exclusively seeing each other," with McRae thinking Hughes was "a really cool guy" and loving going to his games. "She has been so supportive of his career and has been loving going to the games and cheering him on," the insider said at the time.
Fast forward to this week, and it's all over before they even had a chance to make it Instagram official. Talk about a plot twist.
And Then Came The MAGA Drama
The breakup rumors hit fever pitch this week when McRae got caught up in speculation about her political views β all because of Hughes.
During the Olympics in February, Hughes and his Team USA hockey teammates took a congratulatory call from President Donald Trump after winning gold. The team was heard laughing when Trump made a joke denigrating the women's hockey team, which had also won gold, and the internet came for everyone involved.
When Variety asked McRae about speculation that she might be a MAGA supporter because of her association with Hughes, she shut it down fast. "I like to say my piece through organizations I support and the environment that I have on tour," she told the outlet, noting that profits from her last tour were donated to LGBTQ youth nonprofit the Trevor Project and the Global Fund for Women.
"I think it's pretty obvious what kind of person I am and the things I support. And I hope that my fans can see that through the things that I'm putting my energy towards," she added.
Translation: Don't come for me because of my ex's teammates. π
She's Already Moving On
Despite the breakup drama, McRae seems to be thriving. On Wednesday, she accepted the Triple Threat Award at Variety's Power of Young Hollywood event, where she gave a speech about her "obsession" with her craft and referenced her show-stopping Lollapalooza performance.
"As I've gotten older, I've realized that I'm incapable of doing anything casually in my life β¦ I guess I have a slight problem doing the most at all times," she told the crowd, according to Variety. "Obsession has always been the thing that drives me."
Honestly? That energy. We stan a woman who channels breakup energy into her career. π₯
Meanwhile, reps for both McRae and Hughes have declined to comment on the split β which honestly just makes the whole "he said, she said" situation even juicier.
