Wendy Williams Just Pleaded "I Want Out!" Of Her Conservatorship In A Rare Public Sighting β And We Have SO Many Questions πβοΈ
The TV legend was spotted in NYC for the first time since February, and she didn't hold back when paps asked what she wants fans to know. Her two-word answer is breaking hearts β and reigniting the debate over her guardianship.
Stop scrolling, because Wendy Williams just made her first public appearance in six months β and what she had to say is absolutely heartbreaking.
The 62-year-old talk show icon was spotted walking around New York City on Wednesday when a paparazzo asked what she wanted fans to know about "what she is going through."
Her answer? Just two words: "I want out!"
According to Page Six, Williams was carrying shopping bags and accompanied by a male companion when she made the plea. She was dressed casually in a black T-shirt, high-rise jean shorts, black boots, and a red handbag.
And honestly? This is the first time we've seen her out and about since February, and the fact that she used her moment in front of cameras to beg for freedom is... a LOT.
The Conservatorship Battle That Won't End
Here's the tea β:
- Williams was placed under a court-ordered conservatorship in May 2022 after Wells Fargo raised concerns about her being an "incapacitated person"
- New York attorney Sabrina E. Morrissey was appointed as her legal guardian
- Williams has been fighting to end it ever since, saying she wants "all my money that I worked hard for my entire life"
The whole situation kicked off when Wells Fargo sent a letter to a New York Supreme Court judge claiming Wendy needed a "temporary guardian" to ensure her "affairs are being properly handled."
Williams was NOT having it. She told Good Morning America at the time: "They say that I need somebody to handle my accounts, and I don't want that. I want all my money."
"I don't lie, and I don't cheat, and I don't steal. I am an honest, hardworking person," she added. We're honestly tearing up just typing this.
And Then It Got WORSE
Williams' health struggles have been well-documented. She was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia in 2023 after a series of tests, which led her to "lose words" and "act erratically," according to Page Six.
She also battles Graves' disease, a chronic autoimmune condition that causes the thyroid to produce too much hormone β which led to her hiatus from "The Wendy Williams Show" back in 2020. The show ultimately ended in June 2022 after 13 seasons.
Following her dementia diagnosis, Williams was placed in a treatment center where her own family couldn't even reach her. Yes, really.
In March 2025, she literally threw a paper out of her NYC assisted living home window that read: "Help! Wendy!!"
At the time, she also signed legal documents trying to end her conservatorship, but the filing was denied. Absolutely brutal.
Her Ex-Husband Even Got Involved
Williams' ex-husband Kevin Hunter (they were married from 1999 to 2020) filed a $250 MILLION lawsuit in June 2025 attempting to end her guardianship, claiming it had "become a weapon, not a shield."
In the lawsuit, Hunter alleged that Williams was "being abused, neglected, and defrauded under the care of court-appointed guardians."
Morrissey's attorney hit back, calling the claims "untrue, inaccurate, incomplete or misleading," per Page Six.
Sources told Page Six in November that Williams can't leave the assisted living facility without her guardian's permission β Morrissey has to "sign off" on everything.
Wait β The Dementia Diagnosis Was Walked Back?!
In a WILD twist, doctors actually reversed Williams' frontotemporal dementia diagnosis in November 2025 after she underwent additional testing.
Read that again: They said she DIDN'T have dementia after all.
Her attorney Joe Tacopina then tried to get her out of the conservatorship by the end of 2025, but his attempt was unsuccessful. And here we are in August 2026, with Wendy still pleading "I want out" to anyone who will listen.
The Internet Is DIVIDED
This case has people seriously torn. Some fans argue that Wendy clearly needs protection and care, especially given her documented health struggles. Others point to the reversed dementia diagnosis and argue she deserves autonomy over her own life and finances.
What we DO know? Wendy Williams worked for DECADES building an entertainment empire. She hosted one of the most iconic daytime talk shows of all time for 13 seasons. And now she's walking the streets of NYC begging for freedom from a legal arrangement she never wanted in the first place.
Whether the conservatorship is truly protecting her or controlling her remains the million-dollar question β literally, given how much money is at stake here.
Do you think Wendy should be freed from her conservatorship, or is it protecting her? Sound off in the comments below.
