Zach Bryan Just Broke Robert Kraft's Stadium Record In A "Free Palestine" Shirt — Weeks After The Macklemore Ban
Zach Bryan drew 73,538 fans, the biggest crowd in Gillette Stadium history, while wearing a "Free Palestine" shirt two nights running. Here's the timing, the backstory and what's confirmed.
Zach Bryan just walked into Robert Kraft's house, set an attendance record, and did it wearing a shirt that said a lot without him saying a word. The timing? Chef's kiss.
The Tea ☕
- Bryan played Gillette Stadium on Friday and Saturday, wearing a "Free Palestine" shirt both nights.
- Saturday's crowd of 73,538 is the biggest in the venue's history, per the stadium's own post.
- It lands weeks after Kraft helped get Macklemore booted from Ed Sheeran's tour.
Wait, Back Up: The Macklemore Thing
Quick catch-up if you missed it. Macklemore was dropped as an opener on Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour last month after making pro-Palestine comments onstage. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Macklemore alleged that Kraft "rallied some of the other stadium owners" and gave an ultimatum: the rapper goes, or the venues are off the table.
Kraft defended the decision, saying Gillette doesn't provide a platform for hate speech. Sheeran said the call was the promoter's, not his. Finneas, Lukas Graham and Aaron Rowe all reportedly dropped off the tour afterward, per Deadline.
And Sheeran's own Gillette shows? Canceled last-minute because of a nor'easter. Yes, really.
Enter Zach Bryan
Per Variety, Bryan wore the sleeveless tee (his usual style) featuring the "Free Palestine" slogan, a pine tree emblem and the phrase "An Appeal to Heaven," a nod to an old Massachusetts Navy flag, which is a very Boston-area detail.
Variety also reports that at least two of his band members appeared to wear Palestine jerseys, according to fan footage.
He reportedly didn't address the shirt from the stage, according to THR. The shirt did the talking.
The Record
The stadium's Instagram celebrated the milestone with photos of Bryan in the shirt, though Variety notes the message is hard to read in the post and isn't mentioned in the caption. The comments, though? Full of it.
For context, Bryan's tour is his biggest yet, and he previously drew 112,408 fans at Michigan Stadium last year, per Variety.
A Fake Quote Is Floating Around
Important PSA: Variety says a widely shared statement attributed to Bryan defending the shirt came from an X account that isn't actually his. His real account has been deactivated. If you saw a "Zach responds" screenshot, don't trust it.
What We Don't Know
Kraft's rep hadn't responded to Variety's request for comment at publication, and Bryan hasn't publicly explained the choice. Whether it was aimed squarely at Kraft is the internet's read, not a confirmed statement from Bryan.
Meanwhile, Macklemore's "Free Palestine" tour dates (Dublin, Paris and London, Oct. 26-30) reportedly sold out immediately.
